On-the-day Festivities: Birthday Dinner at the Blue Nile

The dreaded day—I’m officially 26. Yikes.

Yet again and again there are a lot of things to be thankful for. Blessed to have lived 26 wonderful years on this earth and today not only marks my 26th birth anniversary, it also marks my 2-year anniversary at my work place. Blessed to have such wonderful bosses that appreciate me and a house (literally) to call as my workplace. I must say, I think I work for the best people in Houston—a raise, a wonderful La Madeleine Lunch and let’s not forget the oh-so-yummy Sacher torte. Maybe I am a bit spoiled…this thing that I’m doing ain’t a theatrical performing job but who’s complaining, I think my patients love me. Let’s just say they didn’t forget my birthday. Awww…

Presents from the boss.

Delectably sinful.

Came home to more wonderful surprises.. I love you Jose Marco Julian Jacinto Ruiz de Luzuriaga Mendezona. You actually sent me real flowers and they made it on the day too!!!

My first ever long distance flowers

Funny how the handwriting kinda looks like yours, sweetie.

Yes mom, I will never ever get tired of accessories, nagmana ata ako kay Mommy Babe. Haha..Thanks for loving me everyday even with my pangit and not-so pangit ugali. I love you love you love you and every single person in this insanely BIG family of ours. We don’t need to celebrate my birthday anymore, in our family everyday is like a party—woohoo!

Paolo, Claudia and the newly ‘inducted’ Dela Cruz—Lucia.

Finally, I get to meet Maria’s fiance, Bo.

Even the intricate details of the cake are vintage-inspired.

Don’t you just love this part of the dinner? I do.

What I wore that day:

slight change with the earrings and hair tied up.

Pre-Birthday Festivities: The ‘Classic’ Surprise

Every year I try my best to make sure that I celebrate my birthday to the extent of celebrating the entire week or maybe month instead of just that one specific day of the year. I think LIFE is enough reason to celebrate every single day right, what more on that day that you were born. I have a lot of things to be thankful for although I’d have to admit sometimes I forget and complain ( a lot…).  Another reason why I make sure that I have a blast on my birthday is because I know Marco isn’t here to celebrate with me and I try to compensate for the lack of his presence. Our birthdays are exactly a day apart and everytime this time of the year comes around I’m always reminded that he’s far far away and its been like that for 5 years now. Its one these days I’m convinced that LDR sucks BIG TIME.

This year was different for me…I was too tired to plan anything and too broke to travel somewhere (we have to save up for that big day y’know). It was just one of those years when you don’t feel like celebrating your birthday. Some of my friends convinced me that we should do something simple so Mae planned for a birthday dinner tomorrow and Hessa .was nice enough to plan a birthday dinner/clubbing the day after .That was supposedly it until these crazy lovies of mine showed up at my door 2 hours before my actual birthday.

The boys

The girls

So this is how the ‘surprise’ happened…I just finished working out a sweat doing sit ups and all and was meaning to take a bath right after. The shower was waiting for me when my dad decided to call me downstairs for something ‘important’ and ofcourse I was pissed coz I was in the middle of my bath so I quickly grabbed a towel and started heading downstairs , my mom gave me a weird disapproving look. They hate it when we walk around the house with our tapis (Filipino for a single rectangular piece of cloth one wraps around oneself as clothing a.k.a my towel) just coz its improper. Hayyyy we’re at home for crying out loud! So I quickly headed up and grabbed my dirty scrubs from the laundry bin, changed and headed downstairs again more agitated than ever. And out of the blue these crazy friends of mine showed up and started singing ‘ Happy Birthday’ in their ‘vintage’ glory with cake and all.

My knee-jerk reaction: I RAN AND HID! Haha.

I wasn’t made up, not even the least presentable. Talk about grossest Face everrrr! Haha. And mind you Hessa was taking a video. Well, I finally got over it and I finally blew the candles on my cake and thennnnn my cake fell on Vynna’s vintage dress. Crazy I tell you. Ran upstairs took a quick shower and came down and wore a less complicated version of my outfit down below. What can I say? I am loved. Really.

Here’s the original Viva Vintag Glam outfit:

(DRESS: Jatujak Market, Bangkok/ SHOES: Franco Fortini/ TURBAN: Luxury Divas at PURSE: Forever 21/ SUNGLASSES: thrifted/ BELT: from Mita Bo/ ACCESSORIES: RING: Forever 21; EARRINGS: Aldo/ BANGLES: Forever 21)

Bird Details and Pleats look lovely on a neutral color.

Guess which one’s my favorite ring? Haha.

The perks of having your brother work at the shoe store: Franco Fortini Finds for less than $10

The turban was a product of impulse shopping online. I don’t regret it though.

Happy Birthday to me. This is going to be one heck of a year, I believe.

LBD Night

After months and months of planning this Little Black Dress Event with the sisters, we finally pushed through with it. We couldn’t have picked a better time—Houston Restaurant Week!!!! Yay! And I’d have to commend  Colombe D’or for being the perfect restaurant to host our little get-together. Seriously…Look them up.

Chicken Breast with spinach, sun dried tomatoes in champagne sauce.

Traditional Creme Brulee.

Candid photo of me enjoying my Stuffed Chicken Breast. Delicioso!

Where my Girls at this Summer?

So this was the first and last time I saw my peks since I arrived from the Philippines and recovered from that crappy virus that I got from God-knows-where (not sure if it was in Cambodia, Thailand or Singapore..yeah it’s been that long).First one to get there yet I couldn’t even stay long due to family obligations, just didn’t think the next time would take forever. Helloooo, it’s summer…where you girls at?!? I miss you! Let’s use our groupons and do our Magic Mike date please.
Outside Japaneiros with the girls for a yosi break before Hessa and Roxi’s birthday dinner. Spot Hessa on the paper bag personally made by our soon-to-be professional photographer. haha..yes Vynna I’m talking to you!
Girls-in-waiting…(for the late comers that is,haha)
Japaneiros New Zealand—-Tempura, Shrimp and Cream Cheese goodness and I didn’t even break into hives or something which made it more awesome.
It took forever to come up with this long table, I’m pretty amazed they didn’t kick us out after moving all over the place. Service was an A+, thank you for bearing with the loud crowd, Japaneiros.
Perfect set-up, I just came from the Philippines for a month and a half stay and it was summer! I come home to Houston and it’s STILL summer..I just hope the heat here in Houston doesn’t kill me.

(TOP: Charlotte Russe/ BOTTOM: Wild Punch/ SHOES: Michael Antonio/ PURSE: Forever 21/ ACCESSORIES:Ring, Sasha; Earrings, from Kim-Singapore; Bracelets, Beals)

Not sure if it’s just me but I always equate summer with fun and color….lots and lots of color!!! So, I went out and came up with something playful yet decided not to stray to much from my top’s color palette. If you’ve noticed I got the exact shades of my blue bandage skirt, yellow mustard purse and garden green peep-toes from my breezy top. Yes, even when I play with colors I still like to match.I can’t help it but do ‘terno’…haha, o well, some things just don’t change.
Happy Rest of the Summer!
