My Little Game-Changer

I started blogging a few years back not for anything else but to destress— destress from work, destress from my family, destress from my Long Distance Relationship, destress in general. All kinds and all sorts. So I blogged; I blogged about my family, I blogged about my little adventures/travels here and there, I blogged about Marco and I blogged about what I liked to wear, and that made me feel good. I don’t know why but it just did. The Social Tumbleweed was what it was, it was a semi-online journal where I could just log in whenever I felt like it and write about the most random things in my life.

Since Cassie, things have been a bit more different, I barely have time to sleep let alone blog and another thing that bothered me was losing all that pregnancy weight. I didn’t like doing #OOTDs because most of the clothes that I normally wear didn’t fit me yet and I refused to buy anything bigger. Well, its been a year and a month since Cassie and I’m slowly finding a way to my “new norm” , life with a baby. I’ve lost my pregnancy weight but I still have that little pouch in my belly that I need to work on, I still enjoy clothes but I’ve realized that I enjoy dressing up Cassie as much as I enjoy dressing up myself, maybe even more.

So here it is, probably my first decent OOTD since I had Cassie.

I’ve slowly started fitting back to my old clothes hence today’s OOTD but I think the main reason why I’m posting one today is because I’m discreetly twinning with Cassie. Did I ever mention that I like to match my baby A LOT? Haha. I’ll probably keep doing that until she’s old enough to tell me to stop. 😀

Today, I am blogging because I think yesterday’s events deserve an entry. Two CRAZY things happened:

ONE– Cassie pooped in her potty for the 1st time (Yay!) I was about to bathe her in the bathtub when I saw her make her “poopie face” and so I grabbed her quickly and had her sit in her potty. Ta-da. Out came the poop. Proud mom here. After I cleaned her up I bathed her, I turned my back for a millisecond to wash the soap of my hands and as soon as I was about to pick her up I saw it…two little poopies floating in the bath tub and she was playing with it.I guess she wasn’t done pooping when I cleaned her up. I freaked out a bit, screamed for my husband to help me and then proceed to bathe her AGAIN and I got over it.

TWO– It was lunch and I was feeding Cassie rice and sausage, I know she’s supposed to sit down in her high chair the entire duration of the meal but she kept whining wanting to go down and I just didn’t want to deal with it after the morning incident so I let her walk around. One of my sisters fed our house dog, Todd, some of her rice scraps earlier and Cassie somehow managed to find her way to Todd’s bowl and rummaged through it. I found her with rice in her hand and she was chewing. Now I honestly don’t know if she was still chewing the rice I gave her or if she placed some of that “dirty rice” in her mouth so of course I freaked out again. Yes, I felt like I won “The Worst Mother of the Year” award  for that day and I decided that I couldn’t handle anymore so I took a break and told Marco he had to take over.

Today, we’re making up for yesterday’s events, we heard mass and had brunch at Black Walnut Cafe with Cassie’s Ninang Gela and Unclie Pierre from Florida. Here’s what my baby and I look like when I’m not making her swim with poop or making her eat dog scraps. I’m kidding.

This is my own version of motherhood, it’s far from perfect and full of crazy, disgusting, frustrating accidents that I welcome whole heartedly (as long as I learn from them and most importantly as long as they don’t hurt Cassie). Still loving every single moment of it.

Costumes, Candies …Cassie.

The Autumn season is quite enjoyable but what I really look forward to is the Halloween part of it, sorry to say I enjoy it more than I do Thanksgiving. It might just be the fun and the flair of Halloween that attracts me to it, nothing to do with the origins whatsoever. I’d have to admit it is tempting to enjoy the horror movie marathons they play on tv for the entire month of October, (I think I could binge-watch those) but for me its mostly the fun of dressing up or thinking of what or who you want to be for halloween. Halloween is an excuse to be a kid again, to allow your imagination to run free and play dress up; play pretend.

Technically, this would fall as Cassie’s first “real” halloween, I wouldn’t count last year since she was only a few days old when halloween came around. And it actually works that she’s an October baby, all the more reason to go crazy on her birthday. Haha. I can only hope that she grows up to enjoy the halloween festivities as much as I do—the costumes, the candies, the parties and all the works. I’m starting her young.

Here are Cassie’s costumes in a nutshell, although Mommy didn’t have time to DIY, I think we still came up with pretty good last minute costumes from her closet. Yes, we don’t repeat costumes.

Halloween Town at Sugarland Town Center

Our first time to take part in Halloween Town and it was packed!  It could’ve been a more pleasant experience for us but I guess we just weren’t used to being around that many people and the lines were crazy long. Too long to wait for candies and freebies if you ask me. It was fun seeing all the kids in their costumes though, I’m a sucker for cute babies playing dress up.

We went as the Flinstones this year since I found a good deal from some mommy who was reselling her costumes as a family. Marco and Cassie fit perfectly in theirs although I had to make some adjustments on my costume, everything worked out. Not only are store-sold costumes over priced but they’re usually flimsy and the wigs are outrageously tacky, I had to wrap a scarf around it and pass myself as a  “posh” Wilma Flinstones.

Sienna Plantation Trick or Treat

I was running out of costumes for Cassie and on the actual day of Halloween I made her a feather headdress that matched one of her rompers and passed her off as a little Indian (Native American) girl.

I had a lot of left over candies  from Cassies birthday and decided to do a last minute buffet-style trick or treat table to make it look more enticing . Mom dressed up as a Chinese lady (yes, we definitely have Chinese blood so we’re not being racist) and she had to guard the table since some of the kids tend to get a lot more than they’re supposed to.

This little Indian girl is a halloween-naturale.

Who says the fun stops when you become parents? Marco and I are definitely am not out partying on halloween night like we used to but at least now I have two more people to dress up other than myself. Dressing up as a family is so much fun, I’m blessed to have a husband who is down for anything and let’s not forget, the CANDIES! I’m hoping Halloween is something my little family would look forward to in the years to come. Happy Halloween, my little Cassie.

For the love of PUMPKINS.

Happy babies make happy mothers and this trip literally just warmed my heart seeing my baby excited, amused and amazed all at the same time. I’m pretty sure she didn’t understand what “pumpkins” were but she could see there were orange things in different shades and different sizes and there were tons of them. She literally squiggled her way out of my grasp to get down. And just like that she went from one pumpkin to another, “pumpkin-hopping” if you want to call it that.

Ann and I found this Groupon for a trip to the pumpkin patch, for regular adults with no kids you’d probably say it was alright but for parents especially those with toddlers, this was more than “alright”. Little kids went crazy all over this place called Halter Inc. Pumpkin Patch. They had that and the petting zoo, and some mazes, a bunch of kids activities, bits of snacks they were selling to the kids and they even had a spooky trail. Overall I think Ann and I were just happy we got to take Cassie and Olivia to their first visit to the pumpkin patch and of course take a gazillion photos of them. Thank God for #momfriends, I honestly believe mothers in general are in dire need of that friend who’s also a mother, someone you can talk to about your kid 24/7 and won’t think that you’re slightly obsessed with your child (which I probably am, haha). This will suck a bit of Marco and I end up moving to a different state which reminds me, a shout out to our husbands Marco and Charles. The were every bit of a stage dad as we were stage moms and they were participating in every photo and not complaining. Thank you for giving in to our every whims and fascinations concerning the kids and making them come to life. You are deeply appreciated.

These babies got hot and took off their beanies.

After the pumpkin patch, we decided to call it a day. We didn’t stay for the animal petting zoo and although we wanted to ride their train, the “conductor” was nowhere to be found so we left. We bought a medium sized pumpkin with the tickets we got from the Groupon deal and with that Daddy carved his first pumpkin ever.

A few days after, we visited a local pumpkin patch with my mom, Marco and some of my siblings just because Cassie had so much fun with the previous one. The St. Catherine of Sienna pumpkin patch had a minimal selection compared to Halter Inc just because I feel like all the good pumpkins were purchased already.

Local Vineyards, Quiet Birthdays

Local vineyards— who would have thought decent ones existed here in Texas especially since we’re known to have shady weather forecasts especially in our area, imagine experiencing all four seasons in one day. I know there are hundreds here in the US but for some reason when you say “US vineyards”, the first thing that comes to my mind is Napa Valley. I know its very small-town of me to think that way but its the truth.

And I’m not going to lie by saying that I did consider making a trip to Napa Valley, California for this year’s birthday trip (Haha, Marco didn’t even know) but as parents we do have to prioritize our children (especially since Cassie is celebrating her 1st birthday next month) so we came to a compromise by going to a vineyard that’s apparently a 45-minute drive from where we live. Wow, not bad at all.

The expectations weren’t high just because Texas isn’t really known for its wine but I’d have to say Marco and I were both impressed with Haak Winery and Vineyards. I’m glad Groupon brought back its $21 Haak Winery promo, wine tasting, vineyard tour and $20 deli credit for two people, it was definitely worth it and more.

Processed with Snapseed.

Driving to the vineyard was no trouble at all. From where we live, we literally just drove down highway 6 going to the Galveston area and turned right and just like that we reached our destination.

We called them in advance to ask if we could bring Cassie and they said they take pride in making their place family friendly and baby-friendly so we were able to take our stroller in and yes, they did have ramps.

#BOHOLIVIA

I’ve been a sucker for themed parties for as long as I can remember and it amazes me how much fun I have with it even as an adult. You see me blog about someone else’s party and that’s just me appreciating the turn out of the celebration. To other people parties are just parties but it does take a lot of love, time, effort and creativity to pull off something like this especially here in the US where hiring party planners are a bit out of the budget.

So when you see me go all-out on a themed party, that’s just me showing my appreciation. It doesn’t faze me that people think I’m “feeling” the theme too much especially when it’s not my party. They took the time to prepare for it, at least take the time to look prepared and besides dressing up is soooo much fun. I hope Cassie grows up and sees it the way I do.

Here are some snippets of Olivia’s 1st Birthday Party. #Boholivia

And NO Cacay, it’s not #Bohol-ivia, its #Boho-livia. Haha.
